Adoption Day, Forever Family Day, Gotcha Day...

It is amazing to me that we have completed the cycle of one year with Adeline. It doesn't seem that only 365 and 1/4 days ago we were meeting for the first time on the third floor of Lakeside Hotel in Fuzhou, China. How unreal it seems to me that that 8 month old, scared, lonely little girl is my happy (most of the time) Adeline. I think back of holding her as she slept, just feeling her in my arms and realizing that she was made to fit there. Realizing that God ordained her before the foundations of the earth to be our baby. Knowing that God was in it and He chose Steve, myself, and Adeline to be a family. We had to travel to the other side of the globe to find each other, but find our each other we did.

Adeline has become the pattern in the quilt of our lives. She is the color, the texture and the shapes that make us all blend into the family we have become. What would we be without her?

Today is, indeed, a day to celebrate. We will keep things low-key this year; a simple family dinner at a Chinese restaurant and a prayer time thanking God for all He has blessed us with. We will pray too for Adeline's birth family, that somehow they can be reached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and we can meet them some day in Heaven. How I wish they could see what a wonderful child Adeline is.

But for know, I will continue to reflect the trip to China and the year that ensued. I can't help but wonder about this next year coming up. It seems that Adeline can do something new every day. Today she decided she was a bird, complete with tweeting noises and flapping wings. Oh, she has flown deep into my heart and her tweeting has melded into its rhythm.
