Gottcha Day in Brief

First of all, I sincerely apologize to all of you checking this for news. We really couldn't get much news out. Adeline made using a computer rather difficult for her first few days and when we got to Guangzhou, the internet must have been dial-up. To top it off, our cords didn't fit with the cords in China for getting pictures out. So....I'll update you all today!

We were blessed with our precious baby girl on July 3, 2006. Our flight to her province was delayed due to mechanical problems (always soothing), so we got there late. The babies were all at the hotel waiting for us. They called our name and handed us this precious sleeping baby. Wow, was she beautiful! (And heavy!) She slept on my shoulder for a few minutes and woke up to find me (Kristen) holding her. She really didn't like that much. She cried! There was so much going on though, we had every government appointment going on in the same room. There were government pictures being taken, reading documents, proofreading, signing things, paying fees, putting our fingerprints in red ink over our signatures, and all the while she cried and cried. And then Steve held her. Boy, did she like him! No smiles, but she calmed down for a while.

Eventually the craziness was over and we took her to our room. She continued to cry for about 5 hours. The only thing that calmed her down was sitting in the bathroom. She eventually reached out to play with the toilet paper rolls. At one time we even got one brief beautiful smile. Eventually, she exhausted herself and fell asleep.

It was both so wonderful and so hard. There are just no words to describe it. I'll try to import some pictures of this day.
