Goungzhou!

Well, our flight was scheduled to leave for Guangzhou at 6:30pm. We got to the airport and had a delay. We waited our 1/2 hour, boarded the plane with Adeline, and taxied away. Unfortunately we taxied in a circle and ended up back at the gate. There was a small typhoon, so we had to wait until the lightning subsided. Is there any such thing as a small typhoon? Anyway, by this time Adeline was not impressed with air travel. She had a few bouts of the inconsolables, but finally settled down for the ride. She did excellent! She wouldn't have a bottle during take-off, but she did just sit on my lap. She did not sleep however.

By the time we got to our hotel it was after midnight. We were able to go right to our rooms. Unfortunately, there must not be a good dehumidifying system. Steve and I both woke up with sore throats. Adeline slept pretty well, but for some reason, from the next morning on, Guangzhou did not agree with her.

Our hotel had a huge lobby with really high-end stores. We walked those halls so many times that we ended up noticing when the window displays changed. There was also a garden on the roof. We went there often to watch the fish in the fish pond. Being outside does Adeline well (most of the time.)

While in Guangzhou we had some really important appointments. We had to review all our paperwork again, get a medical exam (for Adeline), go to the American Counselate to take an oath, get visa pictures and a visa for Adeline, and so much more. It was really a fascinating part of the trip, although quite nervewracking. I was so paranoid about mistakes in our documents, but they were all OK since she's home with us now.

Also in Guangzhou, Adeline developed a rash. We were quite worried about it, since there was a measles scare in our group. We kept her inside just in case it was a heat rash. We took her to see our guides a few times. They had some suggestions and told us not to worry. We were, however, and continued to watch it and pray about it. My thoughts were that it was an allergy to either new formula or laundry detergent. (Turned out to be the detergent. Thank goodness, and praise God!)

We left China on July 12 at 8:20 China time. That will be my next post.
