Feeling Normal

It's interesting to see how long it takes to "feel normal" after you adopt a little one. There are months, many times years of preparation. The anticipation is unreal. Going across the world and back can take a toll. Yet, once home, it takes a while for normal to set in. And really, what is normal anyway?

It feels like Ruby has been with us forever, but in reality, she's only been with us for 3 months. She's only been in the country for 2.5 months. That is such a short time! With Adeline everything was new; new baby, not working, everything. With Ruby, I actually had some expectations. When one isn't' met, I often go back to the whole idea that she's not been home long at all! She is still adjusting to a whole new world. I'm so proud of how far she's come in such a short time.

What can she do? She can: say "mama", say "dada", say "up", say "uh-oh", follow simple commands, like "Go get your milk", do signs for more, all done and now please. Thank you is just a few more tries away.

So all that to say, yup, it feels normal for me. But does it feel normal for her yet?
